Zambia

Well, that has taken an age to download the photos! I hope you enjoy them. For our Easter holidays we went to Zambia and Victoria Falls. Below are some photos.

The first one is of the Eastern Cataract of Vic Falls. This part is dry for about 6 months of the year but right now it is at its fullest.

This is the bridge that Cecil Rhodes had built which now connects Zambia to Zimbabwe. The bungee jumpers go from here. I managed to escape having to do it although Jen was up for it!

The edge of the falls are just over the back of me about 10 metres away. Aaaggghhh.

We took a helicopter ride over the falls which was very good. Only 15 minutes but that was actually enough to time to take it all in.

We also did a lion walk with a couple of 18 month old lionesses. Was slightly intimidating but overall it was good fun.

We went into Botswana for a day to go to Chobe National Park (pictures of elephants below). This was the ferry across the Zambezi which you have to take between countries.

We stayed 35km upstream from Vic Falls at a place called Bovu Island. This is our accommodation which looked out over the Zambezi.

This is our transport to get onto the island!

Our fishermans hut

Having a traditional meal of Nshima (maize) and vegetables with the local Pastor.

This is a fish eagle we saw at Chobe National Park in Botswana.

Lots of crocs

Hello everyone and greetings once more from Malawi. Below are a few snaps of our home, our Halloween costume and Joe running the Lilongwe half marathon.
To the left is one of the duplexes on our compound. This one can be seen from our living room window. In the background are the plains which will be looking a lot more green in the next few weeks.

A closer view of another one of the duplexes.

Our grass fence that we put up to keep Skylar locked in. Doesn't work very well as you can see!!

This is our front door. The actual wooden door is a bit crap and so we need a bit of extra protection.

This is our apartment on day 1.
This is our apartment now after Jen got down to some DIY.

Another view of how our front room looks now.

Skylar's bed when we first arrived.

What Skylar thinks is now her bed!

Our Halloween fancy dress costume created by Martha herself!!

The back of the ipod.

The Off Road Express. She's old but reliable thus far.

Just arriving for the half marathon a little before 6am on a Sunday.

Getting ready (please notice the early signs of a beautiful moustache growing - more photos will follow later in the month).

Getting the necessary info before the start.

Notice the foot attire or lack of! One guy just wore black socks that were half on and flapped around as he ran. He also has a lovely pair of green shell suit bottoms on. Can you see him?

And they're off!

About 5 miles in and having a good battle with a guy called Corey.

Waving at the support team (which consisted of one!)

The battle for 59th place continues.

One of the top 3 lady runners who happened to be bare foot.Nearly finished but a bit of energy left for a sprint finish. Finshed with the excellent position of 1st Mzungu (white man) across the line (59th overall!!) with the black sock man from the start about 30 seconds behind. Also the guy with white disco shoes was hot on the heels!

The Beginnings

These are a selection of photos from our first 8 weeksi n Malawi. The one above is of a sunset in Nkotakhota, where we had the beach to ourselves on a long weekend. The one below is of the beach.
I have started playing football and we played in the Malawian FA Cup. This is me taking the photo as I just played the first half so could take some photos second half!!! The crowd was about a thousand so that was good fun.

We went on a mini safari one weekend to Kasungu National Park. As we left the park we saw elephants about 15 yards from the road.

This is an action shot of me playing a team in Kasungu National park.

This is my WAG supporting me whilst being hounded by the locals!

This is Jen on about day 12 after all our stuff arrived. It has taken us til day 65 to get things all sorted and I will put some pictures up of how the house now looks.

A fancy dress party in honour of someones 30th birthday and the US open semi-final. Johnny Mac and Billy Jean eat your heart out!
